Nurse Practitioner, Neurosurgery

NorthBay Health Fairfield, CA (Onsite) Full-Time

At NorthBay Health The Nurse Practitioner – Neurosurgery is responsible for performing the assessment of selected patients within the designated service line. The NP performs history and physical examinations, confers with patients in person and by phone/electronically, collaborates with others in the department to ensure a smooth pathway of patient care consistent with established quality indicators and participates in the overall coordination of patient care. The NP is responsible for providing care to the Neurosurgery Spine Clinic, under the medical supervision of the Neuroscience physician. The NP is also directed by standardized protocols and procedures. There is ongoing collaboration with the supervising physicians.

  1. Education:  Required-Baccalaureate Degree (BSN). Completion of master's program in Adult NP, Family practice NP, Acute Care NP or Pediatric NP required.
  2. Licensure/Certification:
    • Current California RN/NP License with California BRN issued Furnishing Number.
    • National Board Certification from one of the following organizations: American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Credentialing Center, or accreditation from the specified service line.
    • Current AHA or equivalent healthcare provider BLS certification required.
    • Must have an NPI and meet Medicare requirements for PTAN (Provider Transaction Account Number).
    • Current DEA if required for specialty.
  3. Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience required in Neurosciences and/or Spine Center - One (1) year (within the past three (3) years) of experience as a NP providing specialized care for neurological and spinal conditions. Adult, Family or Acute NP if practice limited to adults. Family or Pedi NP if practice limited to pediatric patients. If only caring for specific patient population of adult or pediatric’s then Acute Adult NP or Acute Pediatric NP required. Service line knowledge preferred: Spine Center, Neurosciences, Neurosurgery, pain management, and rehabilitation services. Minimum of two years’ experience as a surgical first assistant.

  4. Skills: Proficient with computers and knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications (Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel etc.), working with a fully-integrated medical office software package (Knowledge of Cerner preferred). Must possess high level of organization, problem solving, and prioritizing. Must have excellent interpersonal, written and verbal skills. Willing and able to educate by sharing knowledge and experience with high professional standards. Must be patient focused and customer service oriented. Maintain current knowledge of healthcare trends, healthcare regulatory and compliance initiatives. Ability to read and comprehend English at a level necessary to follow written and oral instructions and safety precautions. Knowledgeable of neurosurgical and spine patient standard practices preferred. Knowledge of regulatory and compliances processes required (Joint Commission, OSHA) Bilingual preferred.
  5. Standards of Performance: Demonstrate performance by adhering to established policies and procedures and exhibiting the defined characteristics associated with attendance and punctuality.

  6. Physical Effort: Attendance is an essential function of the job. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform moderate physical activity including frequent ambulation and prolonged standing. Requires frequent use of telephone, writing and computer keyboarding, six hours or more each day.

  7. Hours of Work: Exempt. Monday through Friday, variable according to business needs including variable hours with flexibility for surgical and departmental needs. May include call work.
  8. Compensation: $93.08 - $113. plus 15% per diem differential. Max rate is commensurate of 20+ years as a NP in this specialty.
