JOB SUMMARY

At NorthBay Healthcare the Assistant Vice President of Specialty & Surgical Services will provide visible strategic and operational leadership and is responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing best in class care for NorthBay Healthcare.

The AVP's key responsibilities include: support of the strategic plan, initiatives and leadership of the organization, development and mentoring of personnel, compliance with regulatory and professional standards, collaborative relationships throughout the organization for the enhancement of the specialty care services, developing programs and services meeting the needs of the patient during the entire continuum of care, driving profitable service line growth, and improving operations in terms of quality and processes.

This is a highly visible position that has administrative authority to work with entities across NorthBay Healthcare in order meet established accountabilities. This individual works very collaboratively with physicians, staff and members of the hospital and ambulatory management team in the planning and delivery of optimal care for their assigned Service Lines and Departments.  

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Provides direction and support for the on-going development of a comprehensive service line for the system.
  • In partnership with key senior leaders, hospital administrative team, and physicians, conceives and develops strategy, promotes operational standards, and ensure services are coordinated across the system.
  • Ensures that the strategies, priorities and operations of all facilities are aligned and complementary, ensuring a system approach to services within the community.
  • Provides the necessary strategic and visionary leadership to managers and directors to ensure the successful day to day operations, quality and growth of the service lines.
  • Works with administrative staff, department management and physicians to ensure the highest level of care for patients.
  • Demonstrates strong business acumen and possesses a thorough understanding of the healthcare environment and keeps current on industry developments.
  • Functions as an administrative leader and partner with our physicians. Collaborates with physicians to develop and foster positive working relationships.
  • Functions as a Network Executive delegate on the Network Operations Council and ensures the ongoing success of Practice Operations Councils. 
  • Facilitates and assists in managing the integration and teamwork of the assigned practices. 
  • Ensures that all services provided meet regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Develops the strategic and tactical plans to maximize the growth, development and effectiveness of these services.
  • Uses financial information for strategic and operational decision making and participates with the directors/managers in the preparation of annual budgets for capital equipment, personnel, supplies, space, and other departmental costs.
  • Drives the continual and successful expansion of the service line to include clinical, research, education, marketing and business programs.
  • Ensures compliance with state/federal and other regulatory and accreditation body requirements.
  • Establishes effective communication channels for all participants involved in a project or activity and provides specific, constructive and frequent feedback.


Qualifications for Success 

Education: Master’s degree in business or health related field from an organization of recognized academic competence.

Experience:  

  • Minimum of 5 years Ambulatory Care setting Director level management experience.
  • Knowledge of Medical Practice operations, revenue cycle, business acumen and EMR experience required.
  • Seven to ten years of demonstrated progressive management experience with increasing scope of responsibility.

Skills:

  • Strong knowledge of regulatory processes required (AAAHC IMQ, Joint Commission)Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
  • Must possess teaching ability, leadership ability, and high professional standards.
  • Must be well organized, be able to set priorities, work independently and is an effective team member
  • Demonstrated ability to engender confidence and trust.
