Director, Perioperative Services, Center for Wound Care and Ambulatory Surgery Center

Full Time, FTE: 1; Salaried/Exempt
NorthBay Medical Center
Fairfield, CA

The Director assures accountability for the provision of cost-effective, high-quality safe patient care for the patient undergoing surgery and procedures across both hospitals, preoperative clinic, Center for Wound Care, and the Ambulatory Surgery Center.  The Director has shared accountability for outcomes of care. 

Responsibilities include:

  1. patient care delivery and oversight of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery; 
  2. creating and promoting an environment that incorporates evidence based practice, regulatory and professional standards; interdisciplinary practice and collaborative relationships throughout the organization
  3. staff and provider engagement;
  4. patient and staff satisfaction;
  5. support of the strategic plan through program and clinical development;
  6. leadership development and mentoring of personnel;
  7. coordination of human, fiscal and other resources.  

The Director has primary twenty-four hour responsibility for over 130 employees and 102 FTEs within the department.  He/she consults with and advises the CNO and medical leadership regarding activities related to clinical operations, quality improvement and risk management activities for the areas of responsibility which include surgery services, PACU,  Surgical Prep Area (SPA), endoscopy services, central supply, Center for Wound Care and the Ambulatory Surgery Center.   The director advocates for and develops programs and services required to achieve organizational objectives and facilitate staff engagement in practice development.  



Education: 

  1. Bachelors Degree in Nursing or related field required. 
  2. Master’s Degree in Nursing or related Health Care field is required or required to be in progress.

Licensure and Certification: 

  1. Current California RN License, without restrictions 
  2. Current AHA or equivalent BLS certification. 
  3. ANCC specialty certification required.

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:  

  1. Minimum of  four (4) years clinical experience in an acute care setting. 
  2. Three to five (3-5) years of related clinical experience in perioperative services preferred. 
  3. Three to five (3-5) years of progressive management experience with increasing scope of responsibility preferred.
  4. Working knowledge of health care practices, patient care equipment and products.
  5. Excellent oral and written communication skills required. 
  6. Possesses teaching ability, leadership ability, and high professional standards. 
  7. Must be well organized, able to set priorities, work independently and function as an effective team member. 
  8. Word Processing skills required. Statistical/data management skills preferred. 
  9. Must demonstrate and maintain current knowledge and skill in providing culturally competent care for the adolescent through geriatric patient populations.
  10. Ability to interact in a professional and effective manner with internal and external customers.
  11. Knowledge of regulatory processes (Joint Commission, CMSS, AAHC and Title 22) required.
  12.
