Infection Prevention Coordinator (FT Days)

Full Time, FTE: 1; Hours of Work: Primarily Mon-Fri business hours but flexible based on business need. Occasional attendance at evening meetings Exempt position

Job Summary:

  1. The Infection Prevention Coordinator (IPC) is a professional who works independently and collaboratively with the Infection Prevention Manager (IPM) and the Medical Director of Infectious Disease Medicine / Hospital Epidemiology to provide service line support to NorthBay Healthcare.   
  2. Acts as a resource for department, administration, medical staff, and hospital personnel in areas related to Infection Prevention.
  3. As an infection prevention expert this position will serve as an infection control officer, in partnership with the Epidemiologist/Medical Director of Infectious Disease, according to the CMS and TJC standards.
  4. Ensures that projects and activities of the hospital are in accordance with the Infection Prevention Plan, TJC Regulations, Title XXII, and Hospital Policy. 
  5. Participates in all aspects of the Infection Prevention Program including surveillance, monitoring, prevention, and education on infection prevention processes within NorthBay Medical Center, NorthBay-VacaValley Hospital and NorthBay Healthcare.
  6. Submits reports and reviews in a complete, final and timely manner.
  7. Applies supervisory experience to recognize when to escalate problems to the IPM but otherwise uses excellent judgment in dealing with daily issues as they arise.
  8. Works independently utilizing a high level of initiative, judgment and critical thinking skills and collaboratively using good team and communication skills.


Education: 

  1. Bachelors degree or higher in Nursing.
  2. Master’s degree preferred.
  3. Strong knowledge of infection prevention and epidemiology, TJC, Cal-OSHA and CMS standards.
  4. Course completion of APIC EPI 101 within 12 months of hire. 

Licensure and Certifications:

  1. Current  unencumbered RN licensure in the State of California 
  2. Infection Control Certification required. 
  3. Current California driver’s license

Experience, Knowledge, and Skills:

  1. Minimum of 3 years acute care experience.
  2. 2+ years acute care infection prevention required.
  3. Working knowledge of health care practices, data management, patient care equipment and products. 
  4. Excellent oral and written communication skills, problem solving and
    analytical skills required.
  5. Must be well organized, be able to set priorities, work independently and be an effective team member.
  6. Ability to lead and manage multiple projects simultaneously. 
  7. Ability to lead and coach teams and mentor individuals.
  8. Proficient with word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook.

Other:

  1. Ability to travel between facility and work sites. Must have access to an operating vehicle with at least minimal coverage auto insurance.
