Mental Health Technician

The NorthBay Health and Wellness Psychology Practice is seeking a mental health technician, under the direction of a LCSW and in collaboration with the care team, to provide a full range of  clinical and clerical services  in support of its mission to integrate mental health care services within the NorthBay Healthcare primary care clinic.

Clinical responsibilities include coordinating and conducting screening protocol for patients with co-occurring illnesses performing crisis and/or de-escalation interventions; assisting in the implementation of private and confidential rooming for patients presenting for behavioral health services for, treatment, and/or assessment.  

Clerical responsibilities include general office management; patient and provider scheduling and calendar maintenance; verifying insurance coverage; answering phones; copying and faxing; updating and maintaining database; monitor and maintain office supplies; and compiling and organizing training materials for presentations.

Education:  

1.  Associate or bachelor degree in psychology, counseling, human services, or a health related area preferred.  

Licensure and Certification:

1. Certification from accredited agency (to be completed within 6 months) or relevant degree. 
2. AHA CPR or equivalent required

Experience, Knowledge and Skills:

1. Two years of experience as a mental health technician preferred.
2. Ability to provide therapeutic patient care to mentally, emotionally and/or developmentally disabled individuals.
3. Works well as part of team and is self-motivated, ability to interact with staff and health professionals in a team environment.
4. Ability to build and maintain constructive relationships with patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, external service providers, system managers, and department staff – often within the context of competing interests – is essential.
5. . Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
6. Bilingual (Spanish-speaking)
7. Comfortable assessing risk and managing distressed person, knowledge of crisis intervention techniques.
8. Knowledge of psychology, familiarity with medical terminology.
9. Capable of managing multiple priorities and demands
10. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records.
11. Skilled in office management; Ability to make administrative and procedural decisions and judgments on sensitive, confidential issues.
