Nurse Practitioner PRN - ED Medical Practice

Fairfield, CA

Job Summary:

The Nurse Practitioner (“NP”) provides routine direct care to emergency department (“Department”) patients.  This includes but is not limited to recheck and same day appointments.  Performs physical examinations; performs or orders diagnostic tests; performs procedures and treatments; establishes diagnosis; prescribes medications; instructs patients and family members about medical conditions and treatment.  Provides continuity for patients.

1. Master’s required. Graduate of an accredited nursing program including a Nurse Practitioner Program. 


1. Current California licensure as a Nurse Practitioner and Board Certification by the American Nurse Credentialing Center, American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, or Pediatric Nursing Certification Board.
2.  National Certification is a requirement. However, if Provide obtained Medicare billing privileges prior to 1/1/2001 and therefore qualifies for Medicare’s exemption from the National Certification requirement, then the National Certification shall be preferred, but not required.
3.  Current AHA or equivalent certification in ACLS and CPR. Those with certifications not AHA equivalent and hired as of 12/2/19 will be permitted to continue to hold their current until expiration (no more than 2 years), then they must comply with AHA or equivalent requirements.
4.  Maintains a current DEA license for schedule 2 drugs and above.  Maintains a current Furnishing Number for medications.

1.  Three year’s experience as a Nurse Practitioner, or completion of internship in emergency medicine at NorthBay. 
2.  Demonstrates ability to evaluate patient’s physical and emotional status. 
3.  Demonstrates ability to provide patient care based on age-related needs.
4.  Demonstrates current knowledge and skill in providing appropriate care for patients in the following age groups:  Pediatric, Adult, Young Adult, and Geriatric.  
5.  Demonstrates clear credentials check through the AHP process. 
6.  Demonstrates ability to clearly set behavioral limits.
