Lactation Support Specialist (Per Diem)
At NorthBay Health the Lactation Support Specialist (LSS) is a registered nurse with special training in the care of breastfeeding mothers. The LSS functions within the full scope of licensure/certification. The LSS is responsible for evaluating the patient and family needs and developing a plan of care based on assessment; coordinates the development of a multidisciplinary plan of care as appropriate; facilitates implementation of the plan of care; and reviews and evaluates the effectiveness of the plan of care for all lactating women. Care is provided with special consideration of the developmental and psychosocial needs of the patient. The LSS will in-service nursing staff yearly and as needed on breastfeeding techniques, positioning, and troubleshooting to meet the organizational goals for improving exclusive breastfeeding rates. Supports the mission, vision, values and expectation of excellence of the organization.
Education:
- Graduate from a school of professional nursing.
- BSN required.
- International Board Certification as Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) OR Board eligible upon hire and completes certification within one year of hire.
Licensure:
- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California.
- Current AHA certification in basic CPR or equivalent.
- Neonatal resuscitation certificate required.
Experience:
- Lactation support assistance experience preferred.
- Must have knowledge of the normal course of human lactation and its variations during the perinatal period and be able to demonstrate competence in the management of the compromised mothers and infants.
- Skills necessary to assist breast-feeding mothers.
- Capable of working independently.
- Requires written, verbal and electronic communication skills.
Hours of work: Variable
Compensation:
- Hourly Salary Range Min $76.45 - Max $92.31 (Offered hourly rate based on years of experience)
- 15% differential available to external and internal applicants with Per Diem status.
