Physician, Program Director - Internal Medicine Residency Program
NorthBay Health’s Program Director of the Internal Medicine Residency Program is responsible for the leadership, organization, operation, and overall administration of the Internal Medicine Residency Program. This role establishes the strategic direction of the program and is accountable for maintaining its standards, quality, and reputation.
In partnership with physician practices and hospital clinical services, the position integrates the Internal Medicine Residency Program in a manner that enhances value and quality while promoting an optimal environment for professional practice and medical education.
The Program Director designs and conducts the program in alignment with the needs of the community, the mission of NorthBay Health (the sponsoring Institution), and the mission of the residency program. Additionally, the Program Director administers and maintains a learning environment conducive to educating residents across all ACGME Competency domains.
Education and Licensure:
- MD or DO Degree from an Accredited Medical School
- Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) or by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM)

Unrestricted licensed to practice medicine in the state of California
Experience:
- Academic Appointment: 5 years’ Faculty experience as a member of an ACGME accredited Internal Medicine Residency Program.
- Minimum of 3 years of documented educational and/or administrative experience in Graduate Medical Education.
- Compliance: Deep knowledge of and adherence to ACGME program requirements, including maintaining accreditation, scholarly activity, and mentoring
- Clinical Experience: Extensive clinical experience, often with a minimum of 3 years of postgraduate training

Possess the required specialty expertise, as well as documented educational and administrative abilities, to carry out the responsibilities of the role and to achieve the goals and objectives of the program.
Skills:
Conflict Mediation: The ability to navigate high-stakes disagreements between residents, faculty, and hospital administration with diplomacy.
Empathetic Mentorship: Providing supportive guidance and active listening to manage resident well-being and professional growth.
Adaptive Leadership: Modeling clinical excellence while remaining agile enough to adjust the program to changing ACGME regulations.
Strategic Communication: Articulating a clear vision for the program and delivering difficult, constructive feedback with tact.
Organizational Integrity: Managing sensitive personnel data and accreditation requirements with high ethical standards and extreme attention to detail.
Proficient in using medical software and electronic health records (EHR), Cerner and EPIC a plus
Fiscal Management: Oversight of program budgets
- Data Analytics: Ability to analyze resident performance metrics, milestone evaluations and board pass rates to implement quality improvement initiatives.
- Regulatory Oversight: Ensuring strict adherence to California-specific requirements, such as the post graduate training license (PTL) reporting and physician wellness mandates.

Compensation and Benefits (Employed):
- Income: non-specialized IM physician $200/hr specialist IM Physician so $240/hr
- Sign on bonus available
- Relocation Assistance for qualified candidates
- CME/Dues up to $8,000 annually
