Sr. Telecommunications Engineer - IP Voice

At NorthBay Healthcare the Systems Engineer II will work onsite and is responsible for managing assigned telecom systems in a 24x7 high availability environment. The Systems Engineer II - Telecom will provide expert level implementation and support for all aspects of an enterprise class IP telecommunication infrastructure including hardware, software, virtualization platforms, telecommunications services and associated networking components.

The ideal candidate will have expert level experience in designing and supporting Cisco voice systems with an understanding of underlying infrastructure components and configuration. This position interacts with all levels of the organization’s administrative and medical/clinical staff and works with the department’s Technical, Operational and Applications support staff. This position interacts with the system customers and understands the role of the systems and stakeholders as they relate to the general organizational environment.

           

Education: 

-High-school diploma preferred.Four year degree in Information Technology or equivalent work experience preferred.

Licensure/Certifications:

-The position requires a valid California driver's license
-Current technical certifications in Cisco IP Telephony administration support preferred. (e.g. CCVP / CCNP-Collab / CCIE)

Experience: 

  • 7 years experience in an information technology role providing direct customer support and enterprise infrastructure management.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a telecom engineer in a primarily Cisco infrastructure.
  • Minimum 2 years experience in health care information technology preferred.
  • Experience working with ITIL framework of best practices preferred.
  • Experience working within the requirements of a 24/7 Highly Available environment.
  • Experience working within the requirements of a change management system.
  • Experience as a technology owner/Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Cisco IP Telephony infrastructure components including:

-Cisco Catalyst 3K/4K/6K
-Cisco ISR2K/3K/4K Routers (Voice Gateways)
-Cisco Analog Gateways
-Cisco UCS Virtualization
-Cisco UCM
-Cisco Unity Voicemail
-Cisco IPCCX

  • Extensive demonstrated experience and ability in working with IP protocols as it relates to IP Voice Digitization, Transport and Delivery as well as Packet Analysis / Troubleshooting.
  • Extensive experience working with SIP gateways and SIP/Telco interconnection/routing.
  • Extensive experience developing and maintaining Dial Plans.
  • Experience working in a converged services network environment.
  • Experience working in a redundant dual-homed environment. Understands the complexities associated with ensuring optimal performance and avoiding outages.
  • Experience with tiered network architectures (Core / Distribution / Access).
  • Experience with physical infrastructure components such as Cat3/5e/6, SM/MM fiber optics, coax.
  • Experience with Ethernet based WAN carrier products such as AT&T ASE, Comcast EPL/ENS/Coax Ethernet.
  • Experience with WAN/Telco carrier products such as POTS, ISDN, T1, PRI, DS3, 3G/4G.
  • Experience with physical plant cabling standards and associated regulations such as plenum space penetrations, fire barriers, underground conduit utilization and suspension requirements.
